I don't feel a thing and I stopped remembering, the days are just like moments turned to hours. So, what to blab about during this installment of the Ed-Not-So-Daily-News. Umm... I know, I will put down my thoughts on the miniseries I watched recently. Band of Brothers is a ten part docu-drama that follows the operations of the 101st Airborn Paratrooper Division, Easy Company. As war sagas go, this one is probably one of the more realistic, accurate movies. Early war movies would focus on the Guts & Glory or flag waving. USA Numba 1! This series is a little bit different. There's still the USA Numba 1 mentality of the soldiers, but there is also the realistic expectation of death and the confusion of "Why are we here?" This movie shows everything a soldier during WWII might have experienced in the European Thearter. Motivations, origins, anticipation, training, the first jump into a hot zone, living in fox holes, being shelled, seeing a friend get shot no more than ten feet away but being powerless to get to them. This series also shows the stupidity and genious of military command, the fristration of NCO's and unit commanders, as well as the veteran perspectives of "replacements." This series really has it all, including aspects of post-conflict life that a two hour movie would not have time to explore. All of this is done with a certain attention to detail which is par for modern day war movies, as well as an understanding and a respect for the men who fought in the dirtiest, frontline battles of the war. The acting was a notch above and thankfully they descided to cast mostly little known actors for all the major roles. There are a few bigger names here, but they don't destract from the immersion within the story. My only gripe was when I was bonked over the head by the 4th wall falling down as Jimmy Fallon was retreating in a Jeep past Easy Company and gave the grim news of the front in his annoyingly forced south Boston accent (they should have cast Matt Damon, at least he's convincing, hell even Affleck would have been a better choice). Damn you Jimmy Fallon!
